Help Can Someone Help Me Heightmapping On My WIP World?

I want to make a fairly realistic heightmap for my world to help with placing rivers/lakes etc, but I am not really sure how to go about it, I tried looking online but I didn't have much luck really. Would anybody be willing to share some information on how I should/could go about this?

If you'd like to know anything else about my world btw just ask

this is just a very basic , only the yellow area and just a few RANDOM rivers

    Gimp using Gmic
    start with a "Distance" transform
    -- masks --

then run a distance on them

blend them 50/50 and then blend 50/50 that and random plasma "noise "

low lying areas would need to be added to the two masks and lakes and things

then an erosion program needs to be ran on the output
