    Default Oct / Nov 2015 Lite Challenge: Waterway Legends

    Haven't got a map to post yet, but wanted to get my thread started, and to make sure my idea is OK.

    There are tons of Scottish myths and folklore about water spirits/fairies & the like, and I thought I'd incorporate some of them on my map. I'm going to cheat on the mythology a little, because many of the legends relate to one particular river or loch, and these are scattered all over the place. So, instead, I'm going to create a regional map with one river system and place some boxes around the various tributaries, with each box containing some info about a particular legend (or something along those lines).

    Does that sound OK?

    Spoiler alert: they often seem to end with someone being eaten!

    That sounds like a perfect entry for this challenge. Off you go then! I'm looking forward to seeing another one of your cool maps with all sorts of little stories in it.

    So I spent a few days researching myths & legends, because I needed to know how much text I had before I could decide on my layout. Once that was done, and I'd made up my basic outline, I started drawing yesterday, and things seemed to be going really well. Too well!

    I drew mountains yesterday afternoon, and was pleased with them. Then, when I went back to it today and took a second look, I feel that I've got a weird perspective issue because the mountains stand up, but the rivers are flat, and it looks odd. I know half the maps that get posted around here have this, but mine seems worse somehow and I'm not entirely happy with it. I haven't got it in me to delete and start again though, so I guess it'll need to do. Should have stuck to triangle mountains. :/

    This is what I have so far. Shading isn't quite finished. I might tweak the colours a little too.

    Chick Pea, one way to solve the problem is to make the flow more horizontal than vertical. Fore instance your river on the left has zig zag that go up and down, try to make the zig zag left to right.
    Hope that makes since.

    Chickpea, look here: http://www.fantasticmaps.com/2013/03...o-draw-swamps/

    See how most of his meanders go farther left and right? That gives the impression of looking down at an angle, and thus the same perspective as your mountains.

    This is what I think snodsy is also saying, but a picture can help

    Chick Pea;

    Maybe the lake out in front of the mountains, could be more horizontal as well and/or the front hills could expand more horizontal as well, I mean. add more a few more, not stretch
