    Post Hello from Houston

    Hello -- I am Byron.

I have been creating fictitious worlds for over 40 years. I decided it was time to connect with others who enjoy doing the same.

I'm working on a cartoony pulp fiction RPG world that combines the settings from "stuff I liked the most" from the old basic D&D and Forgotten Realms, Kara Tur, Al Qadim, Planescape, Spelljammer with new stuff from Pathfinders, and a few other rpgs like Nyambe. I filled in the blanks in the areas in between.

I mainly use Adobe Photoshop, Fractal Mapper, Hexographer, and Paint Net.

I'm always looking for new cartography tips from others. I've started posting some of my cosmology in my profile.

    Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hello Byron, Welcome to the Guild!

If you need some pointers to good tutorials, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

And be sure not to miss
How to Get Your Rivers in the Right Place: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=3822

    and
    The Most Common Reality Errors:
    http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=30156

Have fun and I'll look forward to seeing your maps!

Here's a quick view of my version of the planet "Toril" done in Fractal Mapper. I'm working on a close up "old school" Hex map of the entire planet.

And here is a hex map sample of where our current level 1 & 2 characters are currently exploring --- Our world is a mix of many of the "D&D and Pathfinders regions" - We took the best of what we liked, and improvised the lands in between.

Welcome to the Guild Balipio! The links Chick posted are a fine place to begin in terms of learning some new techniques. There have been several fine hex maps created here over the years. If you do a search for them I'm sure you'll find them. They might serve as inspiration to you.

    Cheers,
    -Arsheesh
