    Default Hello (and a query)

    Hi all

I'm no map maker myself, but I do play role playing games. For that, I sometimes require maps (of cities, villages, castles, countryside etc).

What are the rules for a person downloading a map of this website and using it for their personal gaming use at home with their friends around a table?

    Thanks all

I don't know if there are any. There is certainly no way to stop someone from downloading works by Guilders.
But you can always ask them if they mind or not.

Most publishers who offer "Previews" will watermark anything to try and Discourage any reproduction or offer a very low resolution file to get you buy a Higher Resolution version.

You should ask the artist! Some maps are copyrighted for publication and you wouldn't be all that welcome to copy them. Many, if not most, the artist will simply tell you sure, go ahead. You need to get 5 posts, then you can use the private message system to contact the artist of whatever you are interested in.

Speaking for myself, if I've posted a map somewhere I'm happy for people to download it, look at it, perhaps print it out and use it for a personal DnD game session or something.

As others have said: NOT for sale or re-sale, not for commercial purposes, not to put up as the background on your web site, not to be chopped up and have the pieces used in some map that you yourself might be making, etc. - - Occasionally I'll share some mapping resources or images that I'm happy to have people use in their own work, but those will be clearly marked as such.
