    Map Greetings!

    Hello everyone,

My name is Robert and I'm 34 years old, married with two children and not a lot of time to make maps. I have been running games using a variety of different pen and paper systems in my home-brew setting with the same group of players since we were about 15 years old. I have a lot of accumulated lore regarding the setting but have only recently begun to clean it up as part of a larger publishing project. Here is the world map that I am currently focusing on, and this is just a draft, but I want to eventually work in topography and build area maps with more detail. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. I want to stress that I am pretty new to working digitally so any software or article suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Hello Robert, Welcome to the Guild!

The best software IMHO is Photoshop, which is pretty reasonably priced now. If you prefer something free, GIMP is a similar program with most of the capabilities you would need.

To get you started, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

Once you have completed those two tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!

And be sure not to miss
How to Get Your Rivers in the Right Place: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=3822

    and
    The Most Common Reality Errors:

Congrats on posting a nice starter map with your first post here! I'll look forward to seeing how it develops
