Default Breaking ice with a little contribution!

So! I have known about this site, and have been inspired by you guys, for a long time.
However this week I got around to making a go for my own map.

I have been looking at various tutorials and stuff and I have invested (wasted) most of my time by trying out different techniques, just to delete my doodles again.

However, I came to some kind of epiphany this evening and suddenly ideas just came to my mind, which was a bliss. So have a look at my map and consider it my appreciation to you and this forum.

I was quite pleased with the mountains, but I struggled with getting the hills to my liking. I ended up deleting the hill-layer and brushed up this texture you see now. (Just trying to accept it and move on) So next up is coloring. I have no idea what approach first. :p (I just added a quick gradient overlay)

Ps. If this is of interest: I'm running Adobe Photoshop on a Cintiq Companion

Hello Jens, Welcome to the Guild!

Nice map, thanks for posting it as your intro

You seem to have started your mapping with one of the more difficult methods. It's a nice job, but you might want to try some of the easier techniques, as well. There is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

Those may lead you to other ideas and approaches to try out.
