Ok mappers just a quick question . I'm not very technology friendly, so with that said can anyone point me to a program to help me map out my dungeons and dragons adventures? Now like I said tech and me are not good friends iv always been the pencil and paper type of guy so it would have to be pretty much idiot proof(at least until I get my feet wet) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your help. oh ya I'm also broke so free would also be awesome

TINKS - Icon.png Hi Justin Helmer. I believe some may disagree with me here but for a good start, I'd like to recommend either Microsoft Paint (comes with Windows), or search and install a free program off the internet called 'Paint.net'. Both are very simple and easy to use and great for getting the hang of the basics of making simple pictures. If you would like help with using these programs, let me know.

Yeah, I can't agree with Paint. You have to be a real master to produce good-looking work with such a limited tool. I can endorse Paint.NET.

I also have to respectfully disagree with Campaign Cartographer. It's on the opposite end of cheap and easy.

My recommendation is the Gimp. It's free, so that satisfies one important criterion. It is, however, rather complex. On the plus side, though, you'll find hundreds of good tutorials here about how to use it to produce maps of every kind. Don't worry about mastering the software; just follow some tutorials and don't give up! 99% of artistic capability lies in the skill of not throwing in the towel when things aren't working out.

I'd say Dunjinni... even though I haven't used myself (I use Photoshop) it it seems like a good end extremely easy to use program.

If you can obtain it. Dundjinni's development stopped several years ago, and I seem to recall that there's some trouble with getting the online store to spit out a license. Definitely check in with the user community forums before purchasing to make sure you will get what you need. They're very helpful and enthusiastic about the software.

"current" Dundjinni also has issues working with anything but Win98/XP. If your not running one of those you can't simply "install" and run it straight out the Box so to speak.
If your a Techie type person there are work arounds. Bogie and several others can walk you through it.

I loved Dundjinni but I ain't smart enough to get it to run on my system.
So I use Campaign Cartographer. Like any program it takes work to find their "Niche". Some people can simply open a program and catch on...others like me take a long time..Been playing with Gimp but I can still do a better map with Crayons than I can with Gimp.

On the "Brightside" of Dundjinni News...There is a Current Effort to revitalize Dundjinni into a New Modernized Version. First is getting it "Bought and Rights Obtained"
Then several board members will get to work on "Code" and making the DJ forums stable to use.

Sadly, this never materialized, and I rather doubt it ever will.
