    Default Hello fellow cartographers!

    Hi All,

I've been lurking a bit on this site, and benefiting greatly from the information I've seen. Lord willing I'll have time to use the tips I've seen on here to make some contributions! I use Gimp quite a bit, and really enjoy it. There are so many bits and pieces people have shared online to make mapping easier, and for that I am grateful!

My long term goal is to use QGIS to create an entire global map for the world I'm creating in my fantasy novels, and build a tabletop rpg around it. I'd like to add layers for encounters and hidden "gems", and a network of nations and traveling roads/waterways connecting it all. Lord willing I'll be able to build it in an easy to share way, and in a way that will take advantage of next-gen tabletop digital tech.

I work with map data on a daily basis at my job, and have come to absolutely love working with maps! Now if I can just find the time to fit it in with a wife and kids and duties at Church...

Thanks again for all that you've all shared so far, and please let me know if there is something I can help with!

Hello Cris, Welcome to the Guild!

To get you started, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

Once you have completed those two tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!
