    Help Failing the 'TLS technique'

Hi! I am new to mapmaking software and GIMP in particular and have attempted to follow RobA's tut: 'Using GIMP to Create an Artistic Regional RPG Map'. (Kudos to him!!) I found this site while researching different software to assist an author with improving upon her design. I have a base map that I am attempting to improve upon using GIMP, but am getting lost. Most particularly with the 'TLS technique'. I redrew all of the land borders and inverted the color. I also drew a layer for the kingdom borders and another for the rivers, and hid both of them for later. I was somehow able to create a 'Land Noise' layer that looked exactly like RobA's demo, but could not recreate the technique again when I tried to do the 'Land Clip', 'Land Mask', and 'Sea Shape' layers.

Also, I attempted to upload the file here, but was unable to as it is saved with an .xcf file extension and this site does not accept that file type. Please advise how I can save it as an appropriate file type to be able to upload it here.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

If you put it in a ZIP archive, you can upload it, so long as the zip file is less than 9.45 MB in size. It won't display as an image, of course. For that, you will need to export to a common image format such as jpeg or png. (Jpeg compresses smaller. Png allows transparency.)

I have taken screenshots of each layer of the map that I am trying to create in GIMP. Please let me know what other screenshots are needed.

    Thanks!
