    Default Northley Island

Whilst looking up something on Google Maps recently, I came across The Most Pirate Place Name Ever and immediately decided I wanted to make a map using that name. I started work on this map, but, once I got about halfway through, I realised that what I was creating didn't feel right. The pirate island that I really wanted to make needed to be more cartoon-ish in style, and this wasn't it. However, I did quite like what I had done so far, and it seemed a shame to scrap it, so I made a few changes to make it just a regular, non-pirate, island. I'm OK with how it turned out, though there's probably a few things I would change if I were starting from the beginning again.

Now onto the cartoon pirate island...!

Nice work. I like the subtle shading of the mountains and the sea shore. And a good colour theme. Well done. Waiting for your cartoonish pirate Island .

I, too, like the subtle faded colour scheme, nice work on this! The forests could probabbly have used more depth maybe but that's a minor nitpick

Thanks, Max. I think you're probably right about the forests. It was hard to keep the mostly faded colours yet still show depth. For the mountains colouring, I used the tutorial you posted a month or two back in your workshop thread, and I've found it really helpful, so thanks again for sharing that with everyone.

The mountains and colors look great, as well as the decorative elements. I agree with Max about the forests maybe looking a little 2-dimensional, and there's something about the coastline I don't like, but I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's too thick compared to the other elements, or needs some breakers or 'coastal rings' or something?
I usually always go for thin coastlines, normally only 2 or 3 pixels wide, but I decided to experiment this time and went for 6px. I rather liked it, but perhaps it stands out too much against the faded colours elsewhere. I did put some effects around the coastline, but they're very subtle, maybe too subtle to see.

Great work on this! I really love the mountains! I agree with max about the forests though, I think that they look very odd next to those mountains. I also really like your colors and the overall appeal of this map.
