    Default Hi everyone!

    Hi!

My name is Timothy, I'm a watchmaker student in the Netherlands. I've always been fascinated by maps, and I'm also very creative. Since I started my study I haven't been able to work on creative stuff a lot anymore. So I decided to start this fascinating hobby! I'm new to maps, have seen a lot though and browsed through this forum for several weeks. I think I'll work with pen and paper and photoshop. I've also read the quick start guide, and I'll be doing the tutorials once I got photoshop Maybe some people can give me any tips on starting, things I need to know maybe? I was also wondering if there are also good books on this subject, since I like books Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

Hi Timothy, and welcome! My best tip is to grab GIMP in addition to Photoshop (also it's free so it will tide you over until you can afford Photoshop). There are a few things that GIMP is just better at, and you won't be limited to half the tutorials that way, either.

    Hi Timothy, welcome!

If you are doing maps digitally, on photoshop, it is highly recommended to have a graphics tablet. I could not draw maps on the computer without a drawing tablet.

I haven't read any books about cartography, I started out reading the tutorials on this fantastic website (don't mind the pun): Fantastic Maps

If you have other questions just ask.

On another note, I'm learning dutch, so I'm always happy when dutch people join the forum.

I offer map commissions for RPG's, world-building, and books
