    Howdy, Don here,
I've actually been working with maps cartography for over 20 years. I worked in cultural resource archaeology for most of those years, mapping archaeological sites and plotting site locations on reference maps. Over the years I trained in basic GIS and advanced GPS technologies.
Since changing career paths, cartography has become more of a hobby. Recently I joined a chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism and have become more interested in the history and medieval techniques of cartography and map making.

This I would like to hear about ! We have talked about portolan maps, some sextant use and the ole longitude issues and some victorian techniques like the glass rods and early theodolites but Id like to know what they did prior to all that technology.

There was some good programs shown about the early Roman maps and the Map Mundi etc but it seems to me those were just artistic renditions of peoples stories from boats. Not exactly map making techniques.

Anyways - we like people with backgrounds in map mapking and especially those with historical learning.
