New to site and to internet forums (fora?)

Hi, I joined because I'm a geography nerd and because I may need some help locating some map-making software. I'll post something about that later...

I have degrees in Interdisciplinary Global Studies, Philosophy, Molecular Biology & Microbiology, and Tropical Medicine with a specialization in diseases of poverty in developing countries. I took a class in QGIS (a freeware GIS program), but otherwise I don't have experience with geographic software.

I just finished a contract working at a research lab at Yale, and I'm on my way to Nepal in a month or so.

This is my first time in an internet forum. So, hello fellow geography/ cartography nerds. :-P

If you have specific questions, feel free to start a thread in the most appropriate folder (possibly software discussion or general discussion might be good options) and hopefully someone can help you. Just holler if you're stuck!

Welcome to the Guild Eduardo! So just to clarify, this is a forum for the creation of fantasy and science-fiction rather than real world maps. That isn't to say that people don't create maps of the real world here, they do, it's just that that isn't the focus of this forum. So if you are looking for software designed for cartography of the real world this may not be the most helpful forum for you. Just a heads up.
