Hello everyone, Ridley here. I've known about the Cartographer's Guild for awhile now, but I never got around to checking it out until here recently. I have to say, it didn't disappoint! There's some fantastic work here, and I'm loving the sheer creativity that's been put in to these maps.
I'm a long time fan of fantasy in general, and it's grown over the years to the point that it has eclipsed my love of sci-fi, my first love. I've been doodling maps for years, but mostly it was one-and-done fun with no real purpose behind it other that drawing coastlines and compass roses was fun. I recently discovered WASD20 and Fantastic Maps on Youtube, and their work inspired me to take my own to the next level beyond post-it notes and scrap paper. I hope that joining this community will be the next step in that direction.
Books are my thing, and I'm almost constantly reading something. My current fantasy obsession shines brightly here. Even now I've just started reading Tairen Souls after much prodding by my fiance. I also do some writing in my spare time, mostly centered in and around my homebrew world of Vestraad (Which had an ever-growing TiddlyWiki project). The book series I'm following most closely right now are Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files, Patrick Rothfuss's The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kristen Britain's Green Rider, and most recently I've discovered Discworld, which after being but off for so long I have fallen absolutely in love with. R.I.P., Sir Terry Pratchett. (Fun fact: I've read The Hobbit 3 times, but I've never finished reading The Fellowship of the Ring or even touched The Two Towers or Return of the King. I plan on correcting that soon.)
I'm a big fan of tabletop gaming, D&D and Pathfinder in particular, with some small dabblings into Iron Kingdoms. I'm recently retired from Magic the Gathering after realizing that it was less of a skill-based game and more a wallet-based one. I still keep my cards because the artwork is freaking amazing. I have similar feeling toward Warhammer, and though I've never invested any money in it, I've considered buying a set just to have myself some of those beautiful, beautiful miniatures to call my own.
I can't think of much more to say about myself, and I'm pretty sure that this post is already longer than some people's attention spans. If you wanna know anything else, just holler at me: I'm open to all questions of Geekery and Nerdiness. I look forward to sharing and learning from his wonderful community.
The Dude Abides,
Ridley
P.S. If I write a world into existence, does that make me kinda like Atrus?
