Default City and Warehouse Maps - Commission

Recently I was commission to make two maps for a self published adventure. Both maps were a completely new experience for me. 'The City of Blackcliffe' is my first city map that I drew and colored entirely digitally, and 'Makor's Warehouse' was the first colored floorplan I have done so far.

As always, let me know what you think!

The set of colors of the city map reminds me of cities in southern France, don't know why. It looks good. Maybe you could give the 7 a better place, I searched several minutes till I found it. It's somewhat hidden at the cliff.
The plan of the warehouse looks good, maybe just a bit empty. But maybe Makor just hasn't good times in terms of business?

About the name: The city is called Blackcliffe and the cliffs actually are greyish on the map. That irritates me somehow. Maybe you could darken them without totally falling out of the coloring concept?

    Nice work, Dan!

I particularly like the Warehouse map and all the little details you added. The way you've done the wooden walls on that are a nice touch too.

The perspective of the city map seems a little strange to me but still works well in displaying its layout. I really like the fields at the top and the cliff itself, though I think more shading to help detail the heights of the cliff would have been good. Also, for the buildings, I understand why the black lines are there, but sometimes they dominate too much particularly at number 1, where it almost looks like the Royal Palace overlaps the buildings in front of it.

Having said that though, I really like the way you drew the Royal Palace, along with the Mage's Tower and the Embassy and some of the general houses are really neat.

I like the colours of both pieces, and thematically they work well together. As usual, your linework is really nice on both pieces too. Nice work on this Dan.

Lovely maps. I like warehouse somehow more (maybe because i love battlemaps ) but the city is great too. I agree with Eld though. You should place 7 somewhere more visible. I searched it for a long time.

Very nice work Daniel! I especially like the Warehouse map. The city map is good, but I'm not sure you needed the darker line around the buildings of interest, since they both have number & a different roof color.

Really good maps Daniel ! A tiny nitpick, in the warehouse, you drew all the shadows in the same direction, the light source seems to come from the top left corner but there seem to be no source of light here. I would have imagined a window somewhere or a central light with radiant shadows.

Thank Eld! The warehouse is actually the headquarter's of some cultist who took it. Whatever is there is just leftovers.

Thank you, I guess your right, I will go and fix that when I get the chance.

Thanks GLS and Ilanthar. The maps will be printed at small sizes (A5 for the city map and A6 for the warehouse map, 25% of their digital size) I was afraid that the linework of the places of interest might get lost in the rest of the map so I chose to add the thick lines to avoid them getting lost. When zoomed in it does look a little weird I guess.

Thanks Thom! The shadows where more to give a sense of depth, as the warehouse is all boarded shut, so there isn't much light anyways. I'll take your advice for future maps though!

    Wonderful work on these!

I commissioned these maps and I'm very happy with them. They are waaaay better than I could've accomplished at the moment (hence the commission). Throughout the whole process Daniel has been an absolute pleasure to deal with and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Daniel was kind enough to make the correction regarding the #7 label and forward it on, which to me is a bonus and shows his professionalism.

Once the adventure is published I'll post a link (if that's OK?).
