Wip Nov / Dec 2016 Lite Challenge:Abu's Flying Island of Asun

Well, i'll make a start then...
    Flying City of Asun WIP1.jpg
I drew this piece last night and scanned it. Going to colour it in gimp. Not working at home atm, so the scan quality is
lower and the color representation on my laptop is a bit different to my usual desktop pc monitor (not sure though whether it is worse or maybe even better ).
As always, critique, comments & suggestions are very welcome.
Hope you enjoy it so far!
    Cheers,
    AL

Ooh, really cool kick off to the challenge Abu! Really nice perspective and great linework, particularly on the underside of the island. Don't go overboard, but it might be worth adding a few more smaller lines to the major mountains in the middle just to keep everything more balanced.

Your city suspended between the mountains is a neat idea...though I certainly wouldn't want to live there looking down that HUGE waterfall!

Great start, and I'm looking forwards to the colour!

Perhaps a sun and some clouds ...

Thanks GLS, yes, i thought about adding more detail but shied away from it, since it has been quite late yesterday and i didn't want to screw it all up... For the city, you need to have a good head for heights indeed to live there... Btw. i totally missed to congratulate to you for winning the last challenge... congratz!

Thanks Warlin, i'm glad i could whet your appetite . I'm not too sure about adding more linework to the original piece. I tend to "verschlimmbessern" (to "worsebetter" in english) things when working with ink on paper. Given i have absolutely no experience with drawing clouds (ok i have, but it has been back in Kindergarten ) i might stick with it... Also i thought about letting the island float in a sort of limbo or in space (a bit like on my tirothell map) or on a simple parchment background, like with Ilanthar's elemental plains....

Fantastic start! Can't wait to see this coloured.

Also, it seems it's true then that the Germans have a word for absolutely everything!

Thanks Chickpea! Yeah, didn't know, the word even got into the Duden (the german aequivalent of the OED). Verschlimmbessern: "To make something worse in an honest but failed attempt to improve it" @Wiktionary

That's stunning ! I'm amazed by the layout, glad to see your signature mountains back and I have to congratulate you about the progress made in the forest department !

I don't now if it's authorized but I have a home made worn parchment texture that you could use for this piece. If you want it, it's yours.

Looking forward to the next steps and especially the shading of the mountains that's blow the comments about the lack of linework away

Oh, and I love the cliffs under the island !

    Go Martin !
