Question Query: the cartographer who covered the entire earth with a map.

Hey! I'm trying to summon in my memory an anecdote I once read of the cartographer who set out to make the most detailed map ever. He mapped everything on the whole earth and by the time he had finished it was discovered that his map simply covered everything.

    Does anyone recognize this reference??

Read something similar in a short story by Neil Gaiman. Maybe in Fragile Things or Smoke and Mirors.

Hi Frenhofer and welcome to the guild! I find the questions around the map-territory relation quite interesting and inspiring myself... A famous reference to this topos is from Jorge Luis Borges' Del rigor en la ciencia, building on the even older Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carroll. Both texts(parts) are to be found in the linked wiki article. Hope it helps.
    Cheers,

I've read "El Aleph" and "El informe de Brodie" who are full of great short stories. I recommend them
