Map First map, looking for feedback

    Hello everyone,

I started DM'ing a new campaign in D&D and made a map of a village and it's surroundings. It's a somewhat large village, ~1000 inhabitants, and in the process of building walls around it (transitioning to a small town). The map is 5.6km x 4km, scale is 1px:2m.

I made it in Photoshop with mouse only. Any feedback appreciated

Looks like a good start. I have a suggestion, if you intent is to show that much of the area and the detail of the town at the same time, put a marker (perhaps with the town crest) on the map and then in the bottom left corner where you have that big forest put a zoomed in view of the town to put in the details. Just a thought.

Looks like a good map to me. The one thing I always fixate on for some reason is water. Does the town draw from wells or is there a nearby river or lake? This is much better then i've seen my dm bring in before!

Nice but somehow, the forests seems a bit gigantic in comparison with the town, imho.

I kinda have the same feeling, actually! I really like the map and the colour scheme you have going, but there is indeed a slight issue with the size, or rather, the scale of the forests. It's perfectly possible for forests to be this large, but the lines are thicker than some of the houses in their entirety. I'm sure if you went for thinner lines instead (like the ones you used for the parcel boundaries ), the map would look just perfect!

Nice map! Although I've been doodling maps since childhood, I'm a newbie when it comes to more serious map making for D&D. I've used PS for photo editing only, but now I'm considering starting a map from scratch in PS. What did you think of the process of using PS for map making? Any thoughts on mouse v. tablet?
