    Map It's me.

    Hey, Dylan here.
    I'm a CG artist.
I'm geeking out on a campaign I've started. I'm painting maps. Here is my wip for an island.
    Crits welcome but ignored.

Hello Dylan, and welcome to the Guild

That's a really interesting style you've got going there. I'm not sure I like the heavy leather texture to the base, but the colours are beautiful

I'm going to show my ignorance now, and ask what a CG artist is?

    Hi Mouse,
The leather look is because that is what the map is painted on in the D&D story. Also I like it just to break from the parchment paper cliche.
a CG artist is a Computer Graphics artist. I work at a motion picture studio.

I think it looks good on paper too. Still since it's supposed to be on leather maybe not. Thanks for the advice.

    Ah... I see now.

    Thank you for enlightening me

Parchment can be a bit clichéd, but its easier to see the finer details of the map than on leather... unless you have used a seriously distressed piece of parchment texture.

What if you imagine the map being much larger - about 10 x the size it is, and shrink the scale of the leather texture accordingly? I have a feeling the map would be even more enjoyable, and its details much more visible

I agree with Mouse. The map is great but when you zoom in, the texture of the leather is a bit big. Also, you've got a wonderful and subtle way to indicate terrain elevation with highlights and shades and it clashes a bit with the forest lineart (which work very well when zoomed out). By the way, very clever way to fill the forests. I'd say you're off to a great start

I have a forum related query.
Posting is so laggy. I that just because i'm new and posts are under review? Or should i expect that permanently?

Hi, and welcome to the guild. New members need to have their first five comments approved by community leaders. We had to implement this to cut back on spam. I see you've made five posts now, so future comments should post immediately.

Didn’t OP say he was going to ignore critiques?
