Hello everyone...

Well not much to tell about me. I'm a father, avid gamer, and trying to write a book on an entirely new world.
I have been watching some of the things on this forum for a month or so now. I don't remember how I heard about the website though.
I have tried to make a map a couple of times in GiMP. What I have found is that I am never happy with my own work.
I have seen several maps on the Interwebage from things that look like chicken scratch to something that definitely belongs in an art studio. And, I loved them all!
However, like I said, I was never happy with my map. And I do not know enough about the program to make it "POP" the way that other artists on here do.

So, I joined looking for a couple of things. Help with completing my map so that I can FINALLY get down to actually writing the story in my head.
Help with GiMP so that eventually I can bang out maps for D&D campaigns and maybe for future book projects.

I LOVE the colored maps but for now I am trying to focus on a map that would be published in a book with my story.
I the contour via shading method maps are what I'm looking for the most help with, I think. LOL

Look forward to meeting new people and getting new ideas for mapping with GiMP.

Well, Tricks, first thing first....Welcome to The Guild, The Mappiest Place on the Web

Secondly, If you want guidance you NEED to check out, and even try, some of the tutorials over in This Forum. You should be able to find at least something that can head in the direction you want to go.

Thirdly, as we are all our own worst critics, I can not suggest strongly enough that you start a WIP (Work In Progress) thread Over Here. This is where you can post your progress and ask about things that might be bothering you, hanging you up or even driving you crazy (at least as far as mapping goes...we do not offer mental aide as some if not most of us require some in our own right...). We also offer pats on the back and kudos for something well done. Don't be shy we are a friendly bunch, and the C&C that you get here will make those maps "Pop" in no time.
