ALPHATOS "The Creations Nexus"

Hi I am new to the cartographers guild. This is a map of a region of another map that I haven't uploaded yet. I am writing a lore and backstory for this map, what I am going to do with that lore? I have no idea. Any ideas maybe? Anyway the map's style is heavily inspired by the classic fantasy aesthetic mixed in with a 19th/18th century European colonial map. The colonial aspects was to give it a tinge of realism mixed in with more fantastical aspects such as some of the symbology which represents each of the separate nation states. The map is mostly hand drawn then photocopied, I then used Paint.net to render the text and filters.

I'm new would appreciate comments and suggestions for future mapping!

Welcome to the Guild!

I hope you don't mind me changing your name just a bit. I had the devil of a job trying to type it yesterday when I commented on this map in your album.

That's a pretty great map - greater for the fact that you didn't use anything other than a hand drawing, a photocopier and a paint programme

I don't know much about Paint.net, or whether GIMP (another free programme) might be better suited for the purpose, but I expect one of the others might have more experience and be able to give you some advice on that.

Thanks for the tips! I have used gimp before but I find when it comes to some things its a little bit limited. However it is something i would want learn as its more open when it comes to digital editing tools.

GIMP is not the only option. There are lots of other free apps if you want to try them. Krita is one I see being mentioned quite a lot, and Inkscape. Best thing, though, is to look around and find out what was used to create any maps you like the look of
