    Map World of Mon: Broland

    Hello all,

While still finishing my Sector 4 map I made a map of one of the lands from Sector 4: Broland.

Edit: removed the sector map since it was getting more clicks than the real one XD

My goal is to one day map all, or at least majority of lands from the world of Mon. They may come in all shapes and sizes as I explore which style fits me the best.

Anyway, Broland is a northern land designed on the Viking culture. Kingdom by name, Broland is under rule of powerful Vjaards that have their Holdfasts. They rule their lands with an iron fist, laws exist as such to favor the rulers and can be bent and changed by their will. Majority of population are providing for the wealthy few and their Sklari (warriors), that go on to pillage neighbouring nations.

I think this may be the most complete map I made so far, really happy with it (minus the mountains which were in a style I didnt try so far). It actually ended up reminding me a bit of tainotim's maps, and since I like his style a lot I guess it influenced my drawing.

Anyway here is the map, I welcome your critique, comments, advice, suggestions and random thoughts!

    Cheers,
    Barek

Awesome map Barek, i absolutely love it! The style of all the elements fits so well together (sehr rundes Ding! ). Maybe my favourite map of yours so far ... well it's hard to say, because the bigger map of Mon is really wonderful too. Keep up the great work and have some well deserved rep!

I really like the icons. And the mountains. Oh and the forests. Well, I just really like this map! It indeed reminds me of tainotim's maps. Very nice Barek!

Thanks Abu, I'm glad they fit together since that is one of the things I always fear I cant quite pull off. Hope to add more maps so the choice keeps getting tougher

Thanks Daniel, glad that I'm not crazy for seeing the resemblance Oh an thank you for the icon comment, trying for some time now to make them fit to my maps and i think i'm starting to get there.

Border still is my big issue, decided on going extremely simple since it works here but for the future need to step up my game in that dept.

    Cheers,
    Barek

Very nice, I love the colours, and this coast line on the bigger region is awesome, it all has a really soft feel to it I think because of the colours, great job! I like this allot.

Nice map Barek! You've done a great job with the style. The label for Broland looks a little bit like a watermark, but oh well. It's not bad.

Must have taken you ages to draw all those trees!

When I read Kacey's comment I immediately thought 'what colours?', but then I opened the map to have a closer look, and yes - the colours are beautiful. Very subtle - like a breath of refracted light across the map

EDIT: will come back to rep when recharged!

Uhuu, this map looks so clean I could eat on it
Jokes aside it looks great, in my opinion it only needs few more labels, a compass rose and a simple and "light" border

Thank you kacey, I appreciate the color comment since that is something I really want to have: a "soft" look without harsh color transitions

    Thank you Thomas!

Thanks Josiah, I also got that same feeling but wanted to stay true to the naming style from the big map, as well not blocking the smaller labels.

Thank for such a lovely and poetic comment Mouse Also sorry for the tree trick but there is actually a bunch of some..20 trees that I drew and then used various sections of it as stamps in a way no obvious pattern could be seen(hopefully)..and it seems I succeeded, yay But I added the shade lines after I stamped them all in

Thank you Tom I actually liked it so much without labels that I put them on just because I wanted to have a complete map for once And as you say I went for the clean, not to crowded look that's why there also isn't a compass or some more elaborate(for me light already means elaborate ) border(that and the reason I really, really dont know how to make a nice border, seriously, i spend hours thinking and trying stuff out and I dont like anything that comes out..then i see yours like the ones in the viking maps and just die a bit inside ...there is a tutorial to be made somewhere there wink wink )

Guys your comments made my day..err..evening, thank you so much

    Cheers,
    Barek
