Default WIP Perspective City using CC3+

    Hello everyone,

I've been practicing a bit with the Perspectives 3 add on for CC3+ and I've decided to try to build a city in a perspective view. So I began with the outer wall of the south east side of the city. This is the result so far. I haven't named it yet or anything but eventually I will. So far it is just in the building stages with no fancy terrain background or anything. Hope you enjoy.

That's looking like a great start, Tony

I've got Perspectives, but I have to admit that I've been way too busy doing other stuff to even have a play, so I'll be watching this with interest

Thanks Mouse. I'm really looking forward to building this up too. I've wanted to produce some really interesting buildings in perspectives for a while now, but it's difficult for me because I suck at math. So hopefully this works out well. Getting the buildings to look like they might actually be lived in instead of being too short or too large will be the trick. I want to keep it in scale somewhat with the walls. They are 50 foot high walls with a 60 foot tower and a 25 foot wooden top to each tower. Then the ceiling on each tower rises by about 15 feet.

I have a hell of a time even just trying to think in ISO mode. I've done too many top down maps to cope with it all that well. Like you - I really suck at maths too

Interesting, didn't even know there was a perspective option for CC3+. This should be pretty cool.

I'm assuming you are making the symbols yourself? If so, I'd warn against using such drastically different textures between the walls and the towers.

I took your advice and made the towers more uniform. But for now here are some building concepts I have been working on. I am not sure if I like all of them but some of them I do. Eventually I will move into making more complex buildings but this is what I have so far.

Its an ISO perspective mode (which has no vanishing points). I really like cities mapped that way as well, since things stay the same size across the entire map.

I'm really quite envious of Tony for having the time to work on it!

How can an ISO perspective have no vanishing points? It's either a very alien concept to me, or I'm totally misunderstanding something here.

    Hey XCali

This is an isometric grid I made in Genetica

    ISO GRID BASE.png

If you use it to draw a cube that is 1:1:1 (representing a very simple building), that cube will be the same size no matter where you draw it on the grid.

There are many very beautiful city maps done this way, since all the buildings are the same scale as one another, such that the level of detail is the same right across the map from side to side and from front to back.

Some people call it false perspective.

Here is a link to a google search I did for 'isometric city maps'

That is facinating. Definitely food for though Thanks, Mouse.

EDIT: Thinking about it. My map has a bit of false perspective going for it. The trees and the buildings are the same size across the board. Hmmm. Very interesting.
