Default AdventureDepot's first contribution to the map making community

Super cool forum, been writing and looking around here as of late.
My interests are varied and I have a foot in many crafts & fields,
yet I hope I might make my imprint in the map making community over time.

Painted my first digital map very recently. I present.

    Continent of Skråvheim
    where the merchant ships thrive.

    Skråvheim frame2.jpg

Point of interest I am happy about and might inspire others: Small outline of the continent inside the globe in the compass,
and why not add a tease about whats beyond the horizon at the same time for extra awesomesauce.

    Resources used:

    • Software: Photoshop
    • Fonts: Cealdera, jancieni
    • Brushset: Watercolor Splatters
    • Texture parchment from Mouse's texture album
    • Followed a compass tutorial by djekspek

Just for fun I made different map modes and climate variants, like a showcase of concept.

    Roads
    Skråvheim Roads.jpg

Nations in solid color............................. Variant of the same nation map mode with different color overlay. Which is best? Hard to see vassal colors for of the middle kingdoms (yellow&purple) comparing to the previous version

Government types, teal being merchant republics & dark red being tribal viking raiders

Tundra & Desert, without nation borders and no frame

That's a lovely set of maps done in a very painterly style. I like them

I think I like the tundra one best of all, because the first map you showed had the borders in strong black lines which kind of spoiled the ridge of those lovely mountains a bit. Maybe use a thinner, or a dashed or dotted line for the borders? Something that isn't quite so strong.

The colours you use on your political maps are just a little overbearing - a bit strong. Maybe reduce the opacity on those colour layers?

Other than that - a great set of maps

EDIT: and you don't need to credit me for the parchment, but thanks all the same

    Thank you : )

Will look into how to do nation borders better differently

This is excellent! I really like your play with colors and the soft way you did the lands.

It's really a great map. It's nice to see the different versions. I really like both the winter and desert versions

Beautiful! Beautiful! The mountains are fantastic, and I really love the watercolour style. Very inspiring! I really want to try something like this.
Either the normal one or the arctic is my favorite versions of it.

Nice job and welcome to Finished Maps, these are quite pretty and painterly which I love.

Very nice work with the details and the various maps. If I had one criticism it would be the land/sea border is a little too strong for my liking. For me it doesn't fit with the gently subtle, but effectiveness of the rest of the map.

Good show overall though And thanks for posting the links to the resources you used/followed

Awesome set. Love the different types for the same location. I wish more people would do this much.
