[WIP] Camping Trip in Sweden

As some of you may have noticed I haven't been too active lately. That's because I was on a camping trip is Sweden. My daughter, girlfriend and I went to Ransäter in the Värmland region. Then we moved on to the Glaskogens Naturreservat. After that we started making our way south, staying a night on a camping near Marstrand. The next day we visited Göteborg and started heading south towards Skryllegården where we rested for two days and finally drove back home.

Throughout our trip we went to a lot of tourist bureaus and got a lot of maps of the regions that were visited. I came up with the idea to make a map of our trip through Sweden in which I draw a big map that shows the entire route and smaller maps of the regions, cities and nature reserves that we visited.

I don't have anything to show yet, just thought I'd break the radio silence and get this thread started. I'll let you know when I've got more!

I actually have a very similar idea for a trip to Churchill, Manitoba I just returned from.

Why, thanks everyone for your enthusiasm! It really made me want to get started on this as soon as possible!


So here's my first draft version of the map. The map and insets are just placeholders for now, they'll probably change a lot before I finish this one. But it should give you a good idea of what I'm going for.

I'm not sure yet what sort of style I want to go for. At the moment I'm torn between a fantasy styled map and a more modern textbook styled one. Anyone with suggestions? Thoughts?

Those look like interesting places. Also, I like the way you draw a number four.

I would love to see it in a fantasy style, but I'm sure modern would look great too. Maybe try a couple quick tests... like a possible color scheme sketch of each, or a tiny section in each style... and see what you feel is more motivating.

So it has been like forever since I last updated this thread. Mainly because I just didn't really have an idea of where I wanted to take this. Recently I have decided that I need to clean up my WIP folder, so I got back at this. I decided to go with a fantasy style. I also redid the layout of the, it didn't feel right to me and especially the regional map seemed unnecessarily big. There's not much done at this point yet, but I'm going to call it a night and thought I'd share my progress with you.
