    Wip Map of Some Sea

So I thought I'd try something simple for a change. I guess in terms of details.

So here's a map I'm working on, we'll see where it goes.

I'm basing it off this map:
    1745_Seale_Map_or_Chart_of_the_Mediterranean_Sea_-_Geographicus_-_Mediterranean-seale-1845.jpg
And a few other political maps on the guild.

    Default Interesting map

Interesting. It has possibilities for world building and campaigns. The large spread and numbers of islands to the north would lend to different countries, kingdoms, allegiances, sea battles, castles! Good choice of geography.

    Default Peninsulas

And the peninsulas offer great intrigue, as some enterprising kingdoms could control sea traffic. Also, there are interesting trade routes and passages interior to the interior sea, itself

Thanks, I hoped it would have a good number of worldbuilding possibilities. That's part of why I love the geography of the Mediterranean so much.

    Edit:
    More white

And here are some political borders.

Still working on the ones on the left/topleft so I'll have to get to those eventually.

Also looking into what I want to do mountain wise. It's hard to find something I like that fits stylistically.

    EDIT alternate version:

Alright, does any one have a favorite style of topographical mountains (or any otherwise really)
I have no idea how to make mountains in Gimp and am completely out of my league.

The map you are basing this one on doesn't have any mountains because its a sea chart and mountains are of little consequence to an ocean chart.

However, if you want to start learning about how to draw mountains you've got to start somewhere, and you could do a lot worse than study some of Jonathan Robert's techniques - top down or isometric, he does them both

Isometric mountains are about 9 down the list, and top down ones are at 19 I think.

I have a feeling that his mountains may be a bit large scale for your map, but if you are clever you can apply the shading at a much smaller scale and leave out the linework. (by that I mean hide the line work once you've got the shading right, or it will look too cluttered if the mountains are very small)

Yeah I'm not trying to replicate the sea chart, I was just using it to see what rhum lines can look like. Thanks for the guide, I'll look into making it fit.

So, mountains, thank you again for the links Mouse.

I attempted some, and I just realised they got progressively more and more cluttered so I guess I'll eventually have to go back and put them more in line with each other.
