Wip Sept / Oct '17 Lite Challenge: Caves of Chaos - Sector No 7

Hey everyone! I apologize in advance for any forum-posting faux pas - I'm brand new to the forum and this will be my first mapping challenge! I decided to do Sector 7 (sorry Redrobes), and thought the first logical step would be to etch out the lines on a gridded GIMP canvas, followed by some basic flatting so that it is easier to discern rooms from background/rock. I left space in each direction (overlapping with other people's turf) to allow for stitching, and will colour them the same style as the rest of my map.

I managed to locate the room descriptions as well (a simple google search of "Caves of Chaos Room Descriptions" yields the right result), so I plan on going through the place room by room once I get the basic textures and colours down for the floors.

    Thanks, Bioluminescence!

I fine-tuned the wall thicknesses, played with the interior/exterior flat colours, drew in the stairs and doors, and gave the doors the clean white background. Last thing I did before calling it for the night was add room labels (that may not appear in the finished product, but good for me whilst adding props to the rooms).

I also added the room descriptions to your original post but it looks like you have things under control!

I don't see any faux pas, Northern, and you have a really cool start to this challenge! Simple clean lines... curious to see what you do with it.

Welcome to the challenge, and even more, welcome to the Guild!!!

Alright, after a lengthy lapse I now have my latest work in progress ready for an upload. I essentially just added shading overlays to my floor and wall layers and gave the floor some rough-looking texture.

It's Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and will be away from my work station, but hope to populate the rooms with the furniture, etc sometime next week and get this bad boy all done up!

Finished up the map, by adding the furniture and props for each of the rooms to the best of my ability. I'm actually really happy with how this turned out - let me know what you think!
