Wip Oct / Nov '17 Lite Challenge: Thunder Island

I've picked out a starting island and done some basic work to start off my map. From here I few ideas on how I will expand on this base.

To start with I generated some difference clouds for the land and mountains, ran the height map through wilbur, redid the height map, ran the height map through wilbur, redid the height map for a third time and put it through wilbur for a third time. I did a couple of different bump maps and decided to go with this more mountainous one, applied a colour gradient, tweaked the curve for the colours a little then added a glow to the land.

I agree with the others : great start, the map looks really realistic, you did a very good job ! Now the difficult part will probably be to add elements without disturbing this nice realistic effect. I’ll fellow your work and I'm sure I'll find inspiring solutions !

Great looking map, QED! I know you'll do more with it, but heck, it looks about ready to go now! :-D

Thank you for all the compliments so far but it's too much for how little work it took! I did consider making the rivers a bit more blue, possibly a light blue like the glow round the land, but that just made them a bit harder to pick out so they may be left as is.

    For the next part:

(plan may not actually be that cunning)

For locations on the island I'm considering Storm's Landing, Tempest Keep, Gloomhaven and The Monastery of the Clouds. Maybe one or two locations more if I come up with any other good names that keep the theme but I may already be pushing things!

    Sadly no turnips.... yet!

Here are the next elements I'm probably going to be working on, although likely in reverse to the order I've posted them here.

    Gloomhaven

    I generated these using thishttps://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator

The plan is to beauty them up a bit then come up with something for Tempest Keep and The Monastery of the Clouds.

The main map is looking pretty impressive already!

I might give that city generator a go myself. Did they really come out just like that, or have you already prettied them up just a bit with coastlines and jetties?
