    Default Fedir & Esmoda

    Hi guys!

I’ve got something new that I’d like to share! „Fedir“ and „Esmoda“ are two city maps that I mapped earlier this year for the german RPG „Splittermond“. Just recently the books were published and I am happy I can finally show them.

Fedir is a big city located in a sort of „oriental“ part of the World of „Splittermond“ and
Esmoda, „The Citadel of the Undead“ is a city that is half ruined and half inhabited by the undead.

What might be interesting about this (at least to me ) ist he fact that for „Fedir“ I used a mobile workflow for the first time in my professional work. I worked on these maps during summer and I didn’t want to sit in a darkened office all day when it was warm and sunny outside. So I decided to make an experiment how much of my workflow I could transfer to iPad (using the apps Sketchbook pro and Procreate). I must admit I kind of underestimated these mobile apps until then. I more or less just looked at them like a „nice gadget for sketching“, but it surprised and amazed me how powerful they actually are. With the exception of some finishing touches (which I did on my desktop PC for convenience reasons and access to my texture library) I was able to do almost the entire thing, from start to finish, on the tablet. So yeah, I am almost enthusiastic about it. I am definitely going to use it a lot more in the future.

As always, I am curious to hear your thoughts. =)

    Cheers!
    -matthias

I like them Mat, really nicely done. First map especially has great colour palette.
There are a lot of small roofs there. Did you draw all of them individually or use some technique to mass product them ?

Edit. Darn can't rep you now :/

I like both of them, but I am definitely leaning more to Fedir.
And that is awesome to hear about the mobile workflow.
I need to get some of that - I am chained to this desk. Grrrrrr

    Sapiento: Thank you!

Voolf: Thanks! They are actually drawn by hand, because I did not find a satisfying way of automatizing the process of greating this type of flat roof. If you know something, let me know, I'll be in your dept!

J.Edward: Thank you! Yeah, I guess it's the more inviting place

    Tom: Thanks a lot!

DanielHasenbos: Thank you very much =)

Actually i am aware of 1-2 methonds by Jonathan Roberts, He posted them somewhere on his blog
Sorry i dont have time looking for them, but i bet they are there somewhere. I never tested them, because i rarely draw city maps and dont work with PS. Hope they will be of some use to you.

Anyway great job with all those buildings, it must have been tiresome.

Both maps are gorgeous, Matthias ! I love the grim vibe of Esmoda but the organic structure of Fedir is what really gets me. Really, really nice job ! And I'll be back tomorrow for some rep.

Two top-notch city maps with different ambiences. Not much more to say that I really love them!
