Default Hello from an aspiring author

Hi! Niels from Oslo, Norway here. I've been lurking around the guild, looking in from the outside, and finally decided to register.

At 40, I run a tiny communications agency by day, but when I'm not doing graphic design, editing films or writing promotional articles for my corporate clients, I enjoy dabbling in fiction. For the last year-and-a-half, I've been working on the Theia project - an ambitious epic fantasy series, set on a world of my own design.

I've spent quite a bit of time mapping out my planet - starting on the large scale world map, and working my way down through a continent map, then country maps and city maps detailing the places featured in the story. I've gotten a lot of tips and inspiration from the Cartographer's guild, and I'm hoping to share some of my maps here.

As a small spoiler, I can reveal that one of the viewpoint characters is, in fact, a cartographer by trade. :)

I plan to post the various maps somewhere else, but here is a teaser image, showing Theia in all her ringed glory.

Luckily, this place is full of neat tricks on how to get that done!

I'm excited to share some of my stuff - I just need to figure out where to post it. I guess it'll be in the WIP section since I keep tinkering with things.

Yes, I've been posting in there but I think you need to have 5 posts before you can post a thread. Simply comment on other's threads

I tried posting a long post in the World Map section - it seemed to go through, but it's awaiting moderation to see if I'm not a spammer. Hopefully it'll go through soon!

Looks great, mate! I never thought to add an asteroid belt round a planet of mine! I love it!

    Thanks, Alex!

Luckily for the inhabitants, Theia's ring isn't made up of asteroids, or they'd get a lot of trouble with falling rocks at the equator.

A ring is a very fun feature to have - there's a lot of things to think of, like how its shadow affects climate and how it's an aid in navigation.

Very nice to have you here! Your project sounds great, can't wait to see your world. I started out as a lurker but finally registered last winter to do some of the challenges. Everyone is very helpful and will critique your work.
