Post New Member Introduction to Cartographer's Guild

Just wanted to introduce myself to the community.

I first ran into the site about 6 months ago, kept seeing it when I was searching r/Mapporn and r/Worldbuilding.
So I've been reading forum posts for a bit, finally decided it was time to make use of the forums more actively and less lurky.

I have a both degrees and passion in urban planning and GIS. I've been working with GIS for over 6 years. Lots of experience with vector formats especially ArcGIS and Qgis. I've had jobs where all I did was make maps all day, but currently work a tech company doing various work with spatial data. Its left a bit of a hole in my heart for actual cartographic work.

I've been playing D&D for over 15 years, I'm currently playing in two campaigns and DM in one. So I've been working on my campaign and creating a map. Initially, I was generating vector polygon data, but I recently decided I want to work on my raster and design skills, so my current big project is creating the region map for my setting. Although I've gone through about a half a dozen mediums, I'm currently working strong in GIMP (via suggestions and tutorials i've seen from various posts here at Cartographer's Guild).

I'm hoping to make quick work of my current project and get into some more stuff from the community.

    Info

    Hi everyone,

I'm RPG player for more than 15 years, running 2 campains right now. For next year I plan to open DMs Club for our DM comunity, helping others with storytelling and materials for campains.

I'm mom of two childern. I have two girls 4 years and 7 months.

I started to draw maps for my fantasy world (better than just quick scetch) a year ago.
I'm drawing in hand, so my biggest problem right now is a good scan Being better in drawing takes time, thats for sure.

I would like to make good city maps and then continue with worldmaps.

I've been deciding to join this site few weeks and finaly I am here. Thanks for this opportunity.

    Hey Tasslehoff and Lady Arxis
    Welcome to the Guild.

Tasslehoff - we have some people who work in vector, though a majority do tend toward raster.
Both have their merits. What sort of maps do you lean toward these days?

Lady Arxis - good to see you here finally.
