    Default Aug/Sept '18 Lite Challenge : Browridge

A little while ago I mentioned I'd be working on this month's Lite Challenge.
I wanted to make an exciting crater, with a little bit of world and narrative to it, so after a little while I landed on the concept of Browridge, a settlement based upon the battlegrounds of ancient titans. The concept has been great fun to play around with and I'l certainly be returning to it on my own time.

I'm still in the sketching stages, but a fair few details have been worked out by this point. I'll likely add more buildings to the settlement, fill the crater with water (adding some detailing to the centre e.g island/monster/wildlife), and then get out the nice paper to ink it up.
Currently not sure about adding labels to locations, or about the level of foliage that will adorn the skull.

As I have some other commitments, so expect me to post an update in about a weeks time.

Wicked cool! Sunken Orbit Lake! Iris island. The great cataract waterfall... Can't wait to see this develop.

How wild! Thanks for coming into this challenge with an absolutely out-of-left-field idea. We'll have a great variety of concepts to explore!

A little behind schedule I'll admit, but due to health and other commitments, I've had to put this competition to the side for a little.

Notable changes from the previous version include
    • Aspect ratio of piece changed to better fit A4 page
    • Place names added (Inspired by Chris Riddell)
    • Fort Foramen Added (It's a pun)
    • Foliage added to Skull
    • Monster added to Orbital Lake (Also a pun, thanks for the suggestion)
    • Several alterations to Snappers Spot
    • Bird added to bottom left corner
    • Mt. Loss is now larger and features a castle

This version is just inked lineart, no shading.
My plan is to do a morning of watercolour, and manage most of my shading with a brush.
Then do a scan, then and then I may accentuate any shading with the finest micron pen I have to hand. (but consider that a stretch goal)

For now I'm perfectly happy with the line art, clearing the underdrawing took forever.
I will paint what I can when I wake up, and hopefully be able to get another scan in before the threads are locked.

In any case, I'm still loving this project, and a finished version will make it to my social media regardless of whether I make the deadline for the guild competition.

    EDIT:

Apologies for the strange file name, I forgot to change what the scanner is calling things after a previous project
Also I'm not sure why the preview image is in portrait, but clicking on it seems to show the full image landscape.
Lesson here is I should probably preview my posts more

Just so that I don't lose track of time while editing, I've scanned the coloured version I've started to work on.
Frustratingly my scanner has some trouble with buttery yellows so, I'll be doing some colour correcting, and also some dirt removal.
Currently unsure as to whether I want to put a border on the map, it's hard to think of a neutral colour that won't blend into the existing elements, or detract from the image. (I'm considering a brown similar to the one used on the labels, but I don't know if I'll use it.

Honestly don't know why the preview image still wants to be portrait.
