Default Samra, a Village in the South

    Hey everyone! =)

Yes, I am still alive but swamped with creating work I love, but sadly can't show as of yet. This one is a village in the south of Aventuria in the world of 'The Dark Eye' RPG. With this, I tried to keep some of the broader strokes and give it a more loose feel. I wanted to experiment a bit with the style I have and push what still could be considered the style of the game. Personally, I think it works and allows a more flowing creation process. The colors are a bit warmer and more sandy / muddy than your usual medieval Europe because of the location.

I included the approval sketch I send to the editors, too. Just if somebody is interested.
Let me know what you think, hope you like it. =)

    That looks great Steffen
I always enjoy seeing new work from you.
I like the outline for the numbered buildings.
That's a good way to focus on them.

Nice work on this. The colors are really nice, and your brushstrokes are effective in conveying the sandy/muddy texture of the landscape. A very fine map.

That river is awesome, I don't know how you did it, but you nailed it!

@J.Edward: Thank you so much, J.! Yeah, the outline is something I developed and decided to keep early for this game. Thanks for the Rep, too! =)

@arsheesh: Thank you, I was hoping that it would convey exactly that!

@Adfor: Thanks! It is not that hard, actually. I used broad strokes with opacity only set to pen pressure and deleted where I was covering land. Letting the ground shine through creates the muddy effect. A few dots for the reflective surface and (very) subtle shadowing of the land to pop out the land. Try it, I'm sure you can do this yourself, too =)

Really great job once again. I love how readable it is, even if so atmospheric and believable. It sounds easy when it's from you ^^

A, nice to see another town map from you Steffen! Seeing the sketch is a nice touch! It's cool to see how this map started out and compare it to the final product.

This is just great ! The color palette is spot on, flows and topography are excellent...
Did I just hear a mosquito buzz ?
