Wip My first Try: Tamriel in Forgotten Realms-Style

    Hi all,

this is my first day at the guild and I was looking through many of your great tutorials, ideas and tools! So I just used my holiday from work to try a little mapping project by myself:

I used the map of Tamriel (from "The Elder Scrolls") to start with an already given geography. To challenge myself a bit, I want try to map Tamriel in the great D&D ForgottenRealms Mapstyle.

Here is, what I could manage so far:

I'm pretty happy with things working till this point and using some of your brushes, some Photoshop filtering/blending and some handpainting, it took not as long as I had imagined. But now the harder parts will follow I think. Does anyone have a good idea for filling that mountains in an appropriate style? The only chance of something possibly fitting I could think of, is drawing by hand. But maybe someone has a brush/pattern idea for that?

I'm looking forward to some ideas, comments and critiques and I will keep you up to date with further progress of the map.

    Your
    Styescape

First off welcome to the Guild! It's awesome that you jumped right in with a map! I always prefer hand drawn for this map it definitely seems like a top down perspective so make sure you keep it in that perspective. I also noticed that you don't have any rivers and they would help fill in some spaces and make it more interesting. Best of luck on this!

Thank you, for your comments on my first try!

Yes rivers are missing so far, because I first have to find a Tamriel map were rivers are drawn to locate them. It is not going to be a very exact map, but I wanted to place the locations at least roughly in the right place. But I will fight with that now.

BTW, I was stalking your maps at your homepage and I really like your stuff, especially your Black&White style! And of course I like you quoted Firefly
