Default Fantasy Maps - First Map Post

    Greetings,

After being an occasional visitor to the website, I recently registered and discovered the wonderful resources KMAlexander offers by way of brush tools.
It inspired me to make a map using those tools. This is my first digital map. While I have drawn maps by hand off and on for years I still have much to learn in terms of both analog and digital mediums. I think this map probably needs more lettering. What other elements would you consider adding? Any feedback is welcome.

    Kind Regards,
    Will

KLINDEN PORT - Keystone Maps 2020

Situated in an otherwise fairly remote part of the territories, Klinden Port offers access to the trade routes for sea going vessels and overland explorers. A city of active trade in imported goods as well as exported resources, the merchants of Klinden Port are exceptionally wealthy. The Council of Merchants is presided over by the Klinden family who were early merchants to set up trade in these wild coast lands.

I like you style over all, the city portion really has the feel of traditional cartography from centuries past, kudos to you for that!

The only critique I have is that the grass and water are begging for a variance in texture. The way it is currently makes it seem overall flat. Some shadowing would also help to alleviate that me thinks.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello there,

I like overall look and color scheme.
The brushes you used are also very beautiful and it all comes together very well.

A minor critique I have is the placement of the bridges. Why are two islands connected and one smaller island to the mainland, but not the mainland to the biggest island, although there is roughly the same distance? Is there a story related reason? Because otherwise, connecting the mainland to the biggest island would make the most sense for the inhabitants of the city.
Furthermore, I would put the scroll with the name of the town a little further up, so that it isn't cut off. And the town wall being cut off at the western border is also mildly unsatisfying.

But again, despite those minor details: beautiful map
