How Do You Map Plains/Grasslands?

I've been working on my map and I have come to realize that I have no idea on how to map my plains/grassy areas. I've looked through the forum, completed maps and searched Google images as well. What's the style that works best for you? I've seen the tufts of grass approach but there has to be more ways. I do pen and paper so digitally coloring areas is out. Thanks all.

The most common way, by far, is to just leave them plain. Everything else gets called out, including deserts (with dunes usually).

It would also depend on the style you are using for other features such as mountains and forests. Maybe show a sample of your map, and someone might have a suggestion or two.

With that style, as Falconius said, you could probably leave it empty except for a label. If it were me, I might put in a few tufts of grass here and there, but it wouldn't be very many.

I am liable to agree with Wolfe, I would either put some small tufts of grass or label it something like "southern plains" or grasslands. Even just leaving it blank would get the point across to an extent.

I usually add a few tufts of grass in the area just to give some visual texture. I don't care for leaving any area of a map completely blank.

Or, if you want to include some texture but even more minimal than tufts of grass, a (light) scattering of dots could do the trick. I'd suggest keeping it very light/sparse, and finer dots, too.

I never leave grasslands plain, because I live on the prairies and they are anything but. I do clusters of three dots for the simplest fill.
