Hello. I'm a middle aged gamer. I drew a lot of maps by hand back when I used to play more tabletop RPGs and I'm now looking to learn some beginner friendly map making software.

I heard this is the place to be if you want to see the masters at work, so I'm hoping to pick up a thing or two. Or three.

You've heard right! Step right in, stay a while. I'm sure you'll pick up more than a few things. We do have a great tutorial section with many useful ones available if you are looking to get into digital mapping, which I definitely recommend checking out. Beginner friendly mapping software? Popular choice for that is probably Wonderdraft, there's also Other World Mapper (my choice), the whole lineup of Campaign Cartographer (might still be available as a humble bundle!) and more. Have fun!

And thanks for the recommendations. I'll be checking them out. I have a specific project in mind that might be too ambitious for a beginner, but I like a challenge and hopefully I can produce something that I can be proud of. As soon as I'm well on the way I will post WIPs for your scrutiny.
