Hi there, new guy - used to be the cartographer for my tabletop gaming groups waaay back in the day. Recently decided during quarantine I needed something to occupy my time and mind and so I want to get back in to map making. I heard this is the place to learn, so here I am.

Welcome. I feel that the most common way of people getting into cartography is tabletop gaming or worldbuilding for a fantasy novel. The talent from cartographers here is incredible, I recommend joining the challenges to grow your abilities

I will say that I prefer to hand draw my maps so far vs using programs - but that is bound to change I'm sure the more I learn.

I will say that I prefer to hand draw my maps so far vs using programs - but that is bound to change I'm sure the more I learn.

There is a decent group of us here who exclusively hand draw maps so there is no need to go digital if you don't want too, I will say it is probably possible to work more quickly with digital tools and they are more forgiving of mistakes but the odd imperfection can add to the character of a piece.

Anyway, welcome to the guild. I look forward to seeing some of your work.
