    Default Greetings, cartographers!

Quite an impressive and talented group here, it's a pleasure to join you.

My own introduction to the subject goes back about 30 years to my first D&D game, and that iconic map in Lord of the Rings. Ever since I've found the pull of fantastical places quite compelling, and have seen maps as a way to make the imaginary just a little more tangible.

I've done a few maps for my own RPG games since then. My current game has been running for quite a few years, and we have a tattered and dog-eared map that has seen some very hard use. It was made with a number of tools, was surprisingly hard to make, and never really lived up to the ambitions I had for it, and yet it is still a powerful symbol for the players in that game (or at least me!)

As a software developer, I sometimes take frustrations personally and set out to improve on them with a bit of engineering. This time that led to a project called Worldspinner, which is currently being Kickstarted... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...r-and-map-make

I'm interested in any feedback & discussions on that project, but also just interested in learning from this community.

Off into the uncharted unknown we go...

Thanks, Itan! We are very interested in early feedback, and have about 750 people signed up through the Kickstarter.

Sounds like you could market this to writers, as well; I recently participated in a panel on worldbuilding for novels at a con!

That's an excellent point, Dru. We have indeed heard from several writers who are planning to give it a try as a worldbuilding tool for upcoming novels. The user license will specifically allow print reproduction of the maps produced in commercial products.

Please do let your author friends know about it, and I'd love to hear from you if get a chance to look at it more closely, to hear what you think.
