I bet it was an "official" mapping item like a battle mat or something. I know I've seen that before...
Bill Stickers is innocent! It isn't Bill's fault that he was hanging out in the wrong place.

No fair, I've been away. I didn't get a crack at this. LOL! I wouldn't have got it anyways but I can say that the artist is Bill Willingham (who started with D&D and V&V art and then would do the Elementals comic and now, Fables).
    Cheers,

Guess I was wrong about which product it came from, then. I'm pretty sure that I've seen that artwork in another TSR product, though. Maybe it was just a Willingham piece of line art from one modules that was similar, though.

    Nope, the hexes were black.

I loved that product. I initially forgot the artist was Willingham and thought it was Jeff Dee, which lead me to search, where I found the site Tome of Treasures (http://tomeoftreasures.com/index.html). There I was able to find a smaller image of the picture, and saw that is was Willingham I was thinking of.

To me, D&D is all about Willingham, Dee and Erol Otus (who still does D&D artwork for Dungeon Crawl Classics for Goodman Games http://www.goodman-games.com/index.html
