Wip Leonicia - Strategy and Tactics - Vol. 6

In the Year 45, Era of Rising Wisdom and the 23rd year of his reign, Sergius Ignominae II directed his military historian, Lady Felicinae Smythinolle to begin work on a book. This book would later become a series of volumes. The series of volumes, aptly titled Strategy and Tactics, soon became the standard core around which all military training revolved in the Prelacy of Leonicia.

Prelate Ignominae's decision to standardize and chronicle military technique during the final days of his reign, was viewed as not only as a wise decision for the time, but imitable for the future. Indeed, when his successor, Prelate Tamil Robynous, was throned, it was mere months before news of a new Strategy and Tactics volume began to spread. And so it continued, with each new Prelate charging his or her military historian to create one or more new volumes of the now famous series of tomes.

To date, there are fourteen volumes of the Leonician Strategy and Tactics series, but none is more famous or infamous its sixth volume, Strategic Conjury in Battle. Written under the direction of Prelate Theremae Joyous II, it was authored by Sir Mertius Bent. The retired High Magus of Leonician Mages Cadre, Sir Mertius' work has been described as systematic in its approach and thorough. Its discussion on how to best utilize the arcane abilities of conjurers in military operations was, by prelitary decree, a topic that was too sensitive to risk it falling into enemy hands. Therefore, upon its completion, the book was declared for the sole use of the Leonician Military. This made it unique among all of the Strategy and Tactics series.

Unfortunately, the declaration was insufficient to properly protect the contents of the tome. Therefore, Sir Mertius, drawing on his vast knowledge of arcane powers, devised a solution: a lock. The lock, seen in this image, is a modified version of the padlock often utilized in Leonicia. Instead of numbers, however, the four dials show runic words of power. And the correct sequence for the runes? It is a secret kept only by the High Magus of the Cadre and the Prelate him or herself. And what about the would be thief intent of circumventing the lock? From the remains found of those who have tried, it seems their only reward is that of a swift, if painful, end.

My goodness! Right at the 11th hour, no less, and with an interesting back story

Looks great. I like the way you've put it on a desk, and added all the details of the local environment

Mouse- If it weren't for those little details, I probably would have had this posted a week ago. But nooOOOooo... my brain came up with this idea and wouldn't let me move on until my book was sitting on a desk with STUFF on it. Naturally, having never made a desk with stuff on it, there were some unexpected ... ahem ... complications. lol

Bogie- So glad mentioned my wood background! That was the biggest of the aforementioned "complications" actually. I just wasn't satisfied with it, until I finally ended up with what you see there. Thanks, as always, for the great challenge this month. As usual, it was fun, a challenge, and forced me to learn how to do more stuff. Good times!

Great big thanks to both of you!
