I think the way you draw your forests is better than the brush, but that's only my personal opinion
    Thank you so much Mouse!
Yeah, I understand why you say that. I probably do to.

Speaking of which, I know there are quite a few folk on here with a thing for forests, check out Deven Rue's work, mainly done in inks and then scanned I believe (including colouring). She draws every damn tree individually...good luck with that I say!
    Thanks

It's very impressive to see how you both make a very realistic look, and at the same time make it almost a painting.
I find the choice of colors very intelligent: enough clarity to make the card cheerful and alive, but with beautiful contrasts with the oceans.
The forests are very special: many sparse areas, which give a very realistic aspect, increased still with this effect bevel and emboss, which come to give a nice volume (and I find that it is very difficult to make this volume to This scale).
And then the difference in climate between the north and the south is also very well done: not excessive, but sufficient to understand that one is in front of an entire continent.
Really good work I find ...
Your map will really inspire me for my future work!
Thank you so very much Jo. That's very high praise! I feel honored.

The words over the forests are a bit hard to see. I don't know if adding a contrasting edge might make them a little more visible? Or maybe altering the tint to make them lighter over dark things?
Thanks Deoridhe. Yes, I am still going to add effects to the text to make it more readable.

    Wow! It looks amazing!

I really like how you've managed to add many different biomes and landscapes to the world.

Great map , it reminds me a little the style of Jonathan Roberts in his Game of Thrones map.
My only sugestion would be to make more blending between the different biomes with some transition parts ... May be the woods could use a little shadowing ? to make a little more tridimensional look .. Anyway just some little sugestions , the map looks already very nice as it is, congrats .

Whoa, that already looks superb, Josiah! I especially love the way you did the forests. If there's one thing I would change it's the it's the "coastal" lines. I think they'd look better if you drew them by hand rather than by doing a selection, expand it and do a stroke. But that's just my personal preference. And I'd second the resemblance to Jonathan Roberts' maps: looks really good.

Josiah, this is really a gorgeous map. As others have said, the colors are magnificent - they give a great sense of climate and terrain. I love the delicate linework, especially on the mountains. The choice of font for the labels works well - very legible, but not too 'mechanical'. A truly great-looking map.

Beautiful selection of colours. Vibrant, yet naturalistic. The continent's shape and the distribution of forests, rivers etc. looks also very convincing. I especially like that you integrated different climates with the snow covered fir trees in the north.

This is a really great map with a lot of very nice details. I especially like how you did the forests.

Thank you so much for all the amazing comments everyone!

I have just a little bit of progress here, including an attempt at a banner for a title and legend. Let me know what you think and if you have any advice or thoughts about the title I'd love to hear it!

Banner - very nice. Mouse approves

I've been staring at this map for a while now, and I think I've analysed what it is that I'm not keen on with the trees. They seem to me to be too realistic - like something I would use if I were to do a regional map in my photorealistic style.

I'm not saying they are bad, or anything, just that I don't think they go with the strong traditional fantasy map style of the rest of the map because they are too real. The rest of the map is sort of... 'shaded and tinted ink drawing' style, but the trees are fuzzy-photorealistic style that would look really great on a pseudo aerial photograph style of map.

Ok - I'll shut up now about the trees (and run off before everyone else decides to beat me up for yapping on about them)
