Thread: Make remake for practice.

    Default Make remake for practice.

Here is a map I remade for practice: Wes Schneider's Ancient Fortress

    And here is the original:

It isn't a 1:1 facsimile. In fact I left out quite a bit, and I changed a lot, but in general I want to learn how to make battle maps, and I figure the best way is to remake some of the best maps I can find and learn along the way . . .

I adjusted the tones and added different textures:

What's nice is using linear light instead of sRGB. I don't need to make massive tweaking to adjust the image. Just a few slider adjustments and the colors/lighting/shading adjusts naturally. That's if I understand what I am doing.

Nothing automatically blows out the white, it just gets pleasingly more lighted/darkened.

Thanks! Any ideas of this style I could try? This sort of thing isn't what I normally make, but I wonder who makes the best maps that I could learn from by emulating. I admit that I found this map by searching Pinterest images. Perhaps just remaking a satellite image from Google maps is a good idea.

Hmm, not exactly this style, off the top of my head. But a peruse through the Encounter Maps section of the forum could help. A lot of times, when i'm looking for inspiration, I just go look at a thread or two by each person to get a feel for their styles. Seems like this *ought* to ring a bell though. If I see anything or that bell actually gets rung and I remember, I'll post some links

Blender and Gimp 2.10. I need 2.10 to deal with the linear adjustments

Ah, I should have known Photoshop doesn't make shadows that pretty...
