Welcome in the Guild, Angus.
I'm quite new as well but I can insure you'll find what you are looking for in these pages.

Hello Everyone,
Im here for one reason and one reason only. TO LEARN FROM THE BEST.
Whats the best way to do that? Get involved in the community and talk to those who have already mastered the craft of map making. I never thought that a "guild" would exist for this in 2020, not in the traditional sense. But to my surprise, the internet prooves me wrong once again. What is a Guild? A place/community of craftsmen than teach each other their techniques and sell the efforts of their grapht to those willing to pay for their work. It seems that this might be closer to an actual guild that most people might think, providing people with the oppertunity to sell their maps to those who are willing to pay.
I am a map lover, always found it facinating when I studied Geography in highschool, where I learned the Do's and Don'ts of map making. I was always able to make good looking maps in programs like inkarnate but I am now interested in the hand-drawn maps and photoshop made maps. Getting further and further away from DND and moving into real life. I was a DM for many years, even running a couple campeigns to 20. Becuase I was never able to get nice looking battle mats, my maps were all that my players had to visualise their environment. It also helps that im not a terrible writer either.
Right now, Im particularly interested in learning the ways in which perspectives are portrayed in region maps. Ive always struggled to get my perspective and depth right in mine which takes away from the "Realism". That brings me back to why im here...to learn how the masters use their tools to put across those effects. Learning small techniques that improve your maps quickly as well as learning the more "practice-based" techniques which take years to get right. Like any craft, it takes a long time investment to learn a craft. Im glad to be here with this community for this long journey.
Thank you
