Wip January/February 2024 Challenge: Commemorative map for a 100 years of master Orellana

For me mapping is much about the discovery of new places and people and cultures, so I didn't knew what I was going to find when I started this but the floating eyes proved surprisingly to be good companions.

I don't even know if it counts for the challenge because the old map of the world show more of what people thought existed than the actual places, so maybe it shows more of a mental change? What you guys think?

This is my first map in the forum, it is but a sketch and I don't know if I will be able to finish it, but, as always, I am open to feedback.

I think it works, and it's a really neat idea, actually.

It's a great idea to see how the world is changing as we see it! I can't wait to see what happens next!

As you wish usuhsuh, and to see people somehow enjoying those ideias help to actually do the hard stuff, so thanks

Okay so, some things have changed, first some more lands in Mælstrøm World got discovered, the coolest of them being the archipelago that composes The Frog Federation, just between the Lizard Isles and The Court of the Turtle King. Also the history of Orellana and the ruler families got more elaborated, but this is a story for another wip.

Yess!! And it has been so cool, I mean I learn't a lot about the program I use and am creating my own techniques from reference. About tools, I use Krita (a free and open source painting program https://krita.org/en/), and I finally have learned how to use rulers, guides and assistants.

Indeed they did! The encounter with the Frog Federation is described as a very jumpy and wet one, in other hand the Lizard Isles have a dry and hurried people, about the turtle king, well, lets just say the messages take a looong time to arrive from there.

Well, what is the point of being part of a community if not to learn? Got into some challenges in this step... so I would like to ask.

    1. How do you choose the color palette for your maps? Where could mine improve?
    2. Textures. I want this map to feel like 1600s, great navigations, discoveries and stuff. And those maps always have some different textures, some tips on how to make them or find in the net?

For now that is it. I want to solve the issues above before going into icons and typography... but, as always, any comments and suggestions are welcome!
