July/August 2024 Challenge: City of the Steamy Punk Variety

Hi y'all. I definitely did not plan on entering this challenge, especially since I haven't been able to actually finish the past... I don't know, at least 3 challenge maps I started. But then my brain got possessed by some ideas and here we are.

One thing I've been wanting to do for a good while now is to make some city maps, as my portfolio lacks them almost completely, and I do think it will be a really good addition to my repertoire of the kind of maps I can do. So I decided from the word go to make specifically a city map, picked Steampunk as my genre, and rolled these on my wheel:

I'm planning on including everything else on the list, but will kind of merge the last two into one corrupted/mutated section of the city (some mishap by a mad scientist type, perhaps?) Also, please excuse the title of this thread for now, my brain is completely empty of ideas for the name of the city...

I do have a draft to post too, but I'll include that in the next post in order to not confuse the WIP scraper.

So here is my draft for this city map that I've been working on for these past couple days. I relied quite heavily on the help of the Watabou city generator when putting the city layout together. I did end spending a lot of time with the generator, generating and tweaking an endless stream of potential options, and in the end going all Frankenstein and stiched the final layout together from 4 different cities the generator gave me, since none of them were quite what i wanted.

I don't know if the planned border is really steampunky enough, but this is the third attempt that I've made and I've spent way, way too much time on each of them, so I'm just going to go with what I have here lest I go completely mad.

Lovely idea for a city! And even for placeholders, the names are already effective.

Curious, what FONT are you using? It is a really good font for this kind of map.
