    Post They just ate me?!?!?

Have you ever played the legend of Zelda ocarina of time? Well, if you have you'll get what im trying to say. How about creating a map of a dungeon-like insides of somekind of giant creature that just ate you, and it is big enough to be traveled inside.
Look inside of me, and melted in blood, there's a black hearth waiting to draw peace.

There was a monthly compo suggestion along these lines. That was inspired by the creature in Gears of War II which a section of the game is played within. I was also reading an Ian M Banks book (again...) "Look to Windward" which had these colossal creatures called Megafauna with cavities and pockets inside them where whole communities live symbiotically. So where I thought that the idea had only a special interest I believe it might have more general usage now.

My only downplay on the idea is that I did the Werthers skull map a while back - a hideout set inside of a titan or god like skull - and wanted chambers all rounded with ligaments and so on. Very hard to map...

Common theme in Fantasy. First occurrence I know of in game was the SSI Gold Box D&D Game for the PC Pools of Darkness in 1992, where the PCs had to adventure through the Dead Body of the God Moander from the Forgotten Realms.

In Fantasy Literature, the first occurrence of this I remember is I believe either Michael Moorcock's Elric Novel Sailor on the Sea of Fate or The Vanishing Tower (I think it's the Vanishing tower)

Further, in D&D, the Githyanki dwell in the Astral sea, often on the bodies of Long Dead Gods:

Dwelling in the timeless Astral Plane, the Githyanki inhabit numerous fortresses constructed from materials imported to the Astral Plane as well as cities built atop god-isles, the vast stone corpses of deceased gods. Their capital and largest city, Tu'narath, is built on the god-isle of a deceased power known only as "The One in the Void."
So, lots of grist to pull from in Fantasy!

Post Bible reference is older than Elric

The Bible... Jonah and the Whale?

(Actually I've read that that line from the Bible actually only says... Jonah was in a great fish... with no other reference to a "whale", and that being in a "great fish" literally meant "having problems" or "being in a pickle", so there really isn't a reference for being swallowed by a fish. Something I heard anyway, and sounds more believeable than the general consensus of the meaning of that biblical line.)

farscape anyone. the ship was a living thing.

Vong world ships inthe newer starwars series of books.

as well as dragons that look like moutains with open cave mouths.

I think the only thing not done much with is the present era. no vast an awing creatures swallowing living people and having them inside them in the modern world without resorting to psuedo fantasy or sci-fi twists.

it'd be intresting to come up with something for this, and since I tend to favor organic forms and shapes in my art I might do a bit better at this challenge. Though to be honost I have an insane amount on my plate right now getting ready for Connecticon for the first few days of august and then some other projects to take care of too.

I think I could do this.

There was a dungeon towards the end of Grandia II that had you traipsing through a god's circulatory system, complete with switches that flipped you between arteries and veins.
