Hello, my name is Tom and I just happened to stumble in on this forum the other day.
I have since the first time I encountered one been very fascinated by fictional maps, the kinds you find in old computer games, fantasy novels and RPG books. I probably share this with many people at this forum.

I am a 3D modeller by trade but have been drawing and painting for quite a few years now. I have never in this time attempted to make my own map though. The thought somehow never really occurred to me. So I mostly spent my time admiring other peoples work instead.

However, when I found this forum I figured why not try making something and then joining up here to be in the presence of like minded people to share and learn as much as possible.

So with no shame I will share my first map making attempt with you in the first post I make here.

I went easy on myself here and based it on a real location, which is very possible thanks to google maps.
The compass I stole straight from google as I didn't have the time to draw my own at the time, the paper texture also came from google and the font for the text is a standard Photoshop font. The rest is hand painted by me in Photoshop.

I learned a lot of things right here and look forward to trying it out in my next map, this one I consider to be a finished experiment, but I will gladly take any feedback you have on this one with me into the next.

Looking forward to being a part of this great community!
