You're right jfrazierjr - I do use CC3, but I also use GIMP like you do nowadays and create most of the textures I use in my CC3 maps in Genetica. I'm creating the background in GIMP for my current section of the Guild City map, and importing it to CC3 for all the structural components, which are very much easier to draw in CC3 than they are in GIMP.

The Herwin Wielink style that Storm is using is one of the more attractive styles of the basic sets, but there are limitations as to what a single style can do on its own. I think earlier in the thread a decision was made to replace the relatively wrinkly HW desert fill (and believe me it really is quite wrinkly with a lot of redundancy over a large area like that) with one from a different style, which may be why the mesa in the desert look a bit too 'sudden'.

Its all a matter of personal taste I suppose, and I am not sure how I would change anything to suit my own taste, except to cover the basic land fill (the olive green with lots of diagonal lines) with grassland cover (which is a lot smoother and doesn't have those lines on it), and alter the HSL of the oddball desert fill just a tiny bit to bring it closer to the colour and tone of the original HW desert fill. That, however, might not be what mrjane wants

EDIT: The problem with aliasing is the scale of the bitmap texture fill, but where a repeating pattern may emerge if the scale is set too small most of us CC3 mappers try to push the scale as large as we can without it looking pixelated. Each fill has 4 resolutions. It may be that Storm has her map set up to use only the Hi res fills, rather than the Very Hi res fills.
