This issue has come up on another forum, and people who post here use our free mapping objects too, so I wanted to post this clarification here.
The Vintyri (TM) Project is a non-profit organization that distributes objects and textures (symbols and fill patterns) from various sources with their permission and on a free basis. The owners of these mapping objects have determined their own licensing conditions.
We also have our own free collection of more than 1,000 objects and textures (symbols and fill patterns) available in versions for Fractal Mapper 8, Dundjinni, CC3+, Photoshop and The GIMP.
The licenses for the third party material that we distribute generally do not allow one to modify the content and then distribute the modifications.
However, there have been some statements posted elsewhere online stating that a similar restriction applies to the objects in our own Vintyri Cartographic Collection. This is NOT CORRECT.
The Vintyri Project specifically does allow one to make and distribute modifications of our mapping objects. The sole condition is that one must make such derivative works open game content. We encourage users to make and distribute such modifications, as some members of the guild already have done.
The Vintyri Project is a part of the open gaming, open source movement in the fantasy RPG community. We sell nothing. We neither solicit nor accept donations (including free software). We do no kickstarters. Everything we distribute is free, and everything that we make ourselves is available on an open source, open gaming basis.
